3 Drills to Improve Your Ball Striking 1. The Towel Drill (For Iron Compression) Place a small towel or golf tee about 4–6 inches behind your ball golf hit . Practice taking full swings without catching the towel on your downswing. This forces you to hit down on the ball first before making contact with the turf. 2. The Gate Drill (For Center-Face Contact) Place two tees into the ground slightly wider than the width of your clubhead. Pass your clubhead through the "gate" during your swing. If you hit a tee, you know your path or alignment off the center spot needs adjustment. 3. The Pause at the Top (For Timing & Rhythm) Rushing the transition causes off-center strikes. Take a full backswing, pause deliberately for one second at the top, and then initiate the downswing with your lower body. This builds dynamic control and timing.
